Roofing Material Used: EPDM
Location: Downtown Norfolk, Virginia
Project Description:
We completed a challenging high-rise project in downtown Norfolk, VA, installing a new roof system on one of the towers of a 15-story hotel. Working in coordination with a cell phone tower construction company, our team removed the existing ballasted single-ply membrane roof and replaced it with a durable black EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) roofing system. By reusing the existing ballast stones, we ensured both cost efficiency and sustainability, while maintaining the protective weight distribution that helps secure the membrane against coastal winds.
EPDM is a trusted roofing material known for its superior weather resistance, flexibility, and long lifespan. Its dark surface helps melt snow and ice more quickly during winter months, while its durability provides protection against UV rays, rain, and fluctuating temperatures common to the Hampton Roads region in the warmer months. The result is a reliable, low-maintenance roof designed to withstand the unique demands of a high-rise structure in a coastal urban environment.
