Roofing Material Used: TPO membrane
Location: Norfolk, Virginia
Project Description:
We retrofitted this high-rise office building in downtown Norfolk with a new mechanically attached TPO membrane roofing system, which we installed directly over the existing black EPDM roof to reduce labor costs. EPDM, commonly known as a rubber roof, has been a popular option for flat commercial buildings, but it relies on taped or glued seams, which can make it more vulnerable to failure and leaks over time. Additionally, its dark surface tends to absorb heat, which can increase cooling costs in large office buildings. By upgrading to a white TPO membrane, the building now benefits from a more energy-efficient, reflective surface that helps reduce energy costs. TPO also offers heat-welded seams, providing superior durability and water resistance compared to adhesive-based systems, making it a more reliable long-term solution for a property of this size.
